We have to admit that it was a terrible day for the world yesterday.
How can we as parents, explain to our children why the US is leaving the Paris climate agreement? It is a treaty that took years to agree on and that is vital for the future of our planet.
Two years ago, I started a company believing that there must be a better way for parents to get their kids to school and after-school activities.
With almost half of all schools no longer providing bus transportation, 32 million kids are being driven to school every single day, causing 30% of all morning traffic.
Building the technology behind GoKid has not been easy. There are a thousand pieces to think about when scheduling events and activities and coordinating with other families.
And while we’re not there yet, we know one thing for sure: People around the world, particularly the new generation of parents, are asking for new ways to get around.
- Parents don’t want to drive that much—we’ve received hundreds of emails and text messages validating our mission and making suggestions to improve our technology.
- Schools don’t want all the traffic in front of their buildings and are worried about the effects of traffic and emissions near so many children. We are lining up school after school for our new in-school family matching platform, GoKid Connect.
- Let’s not forget cities: Urban planners, mayors, and green task forces are approaching us for rollouts in their communities.
- The most promising piece though? We are talking to some of the largest corporations in this country and internationally—there are sustainability offices, green task forces, and HR departments that for many different reasons want their employees to DRIVE LESS.
Knowing that the majority of cities, corporations, and most importantly citizens in the US don’t want to go back to the dark ages of coal, helps us every day. The GoKid team is motivated to deliver an ever-improving product—because we have a mission to help our planet.
In these troubling and alarming times, it is up to us citizens to show our kids that we care about our planet.
