We’re thrilled to announce that GoKid has won first place in the Transportation category of the SXSW Accelerator Pitch Event this month. The event, which took place from March 10 through March 12, brings together emerging technology companies in a lively pitch competition.
South by Southwest (SXSW) is a media, entertainment, and tech festival that brings nearly half a million participants to Austin, TX each year. One of the many events at SXSW, the 2018 SXSW Accelerator Pitch Event celebrated its 10th anniversary this year. Getting into the annual event isn’t easy though—over 600 companies submitted to the 2018 event. A total of 50 finalist companies were invited to compete.
Each of the 50 companies pitched their product in front of a panel of judges and a live audience. The pitches were judged based on five criteria—creativity, potential, goodness, functionality, and team—and one winner from each category was chosen. All of the companies also had the chance to meet with the public during a Demo Day.
We are absolutely thrilled that GoKid won the Transportation category. This is a tremendous honor for our company and team, and we’re so excited about what it means for GoKid. You can see the full press release listing all the winners here.
This win helps to reinforce and encourage the work we are doing to make families’ lives easier, take cars off the roads, and build smarter more environmentally friendly communities. What’s next for GoKid? We are growing our team, launching GoKid for Android to make sure absolutely anyone can put this app to use, and we’ll continue our work with even more schools to solve traffic issues and help save parents time.
Awesome Transportation Innovation
We found ourselves in a great company in the Transportation category, and were honored to have the chance to pitch alongside four amazing companies:
Commutifi is dedicated to improving transportation for cities, enterprises, business districts, and real estate developers. It uses comprehensive data about commutes to suggest alternative solutions that are greener, cheaper, and more efficient.
Goin helps transit agencies and social service providers to improve their mobility management and ride offerings. Goin can help these providers facilitate wheelchair access so that they’re better able to accommodate users with various transportation and assistance needs.
Gridwise helps rideshare drivers – such as those driving for Uber or Lyft – to increase their earnings by providing them with valuable insights. This app helps drivers learn how to pick up more fares through a number of tools including an overview of city events, airport demand forecasts, real-time alerts about city happenings, and more.
Ushr provides street-level mapping to create a comprehensive, accurate, and high-definition map technology used by self-driving vehicles. Ushr’s exceptionally accurate mapping offers autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicles detailed mapping of roads, objects, and geometric road features. This makes for an overall safer driving experience for everyone on the roads.
Needless to say, the future for the transportation industry is bright with these innovative companies at work.
